Enjoying The Bokeh

The tree is bare, save for the lights. I plan to enjoy the bokeh another day or so and contemplate the upcoming fresh start of the new year! Happy Sunday!

In The Meantime....

Wow!  Where did the week go?
It seems to have flown by since my last post!
Thank you for the kind words about our repro quilts!
We do have great fun and some of the gals are already ready to start
next year's quilt!

But not me.  I don't have a quilt in progress!
I'll start a new quilt on New Year's Day.
In the meantime....
I've been busy with other things!

I finished my Hypotenuse Wrap from Anne Hanson aka Knitspot!
Love it and it's ready to block!  I used Elsebeth Lavold Silky Wool
and can confidently say it won't be the last time I knit with THAT yarn!
Already have a sweater planned in a different colorway.
It was lovely to knit with!

I also was suprised when the hubs asked me to knit him a hat!

So I obliged with a simple, quick hat.  Link to the pattern is here.
It was really quick....I worked on it the past couple of evenings and walaah!
He's happy!

Then I decided to tackle some quilt binding turning that's been waiting.

I did finish this cheddar and even ran it thru the washer/dryer last night!
So now it's ready!

All crinkled...I love it!  My friend, Kay, did a fabulous job on the quilting
with her freehand clamshell design!  I just love it!

And the surprise backing....

a Kaffe from the stash.  Good to have one done!
So I decided to get busy on another one that was waiting.

But my enthusiasm was short-lived on the binding.
I have about 2/3 more to do on this one!

And now I'm working on some good ol' basic

Mindless knitting is a good thing this week!

I also stitched a good bit on the And They Sinned CLOUD,
but will spare you another photo of THAT!  ha!

I like keeping busy!
What have you been busying yourself with?

Pete and Repeat

It all started with this book.  I belong to small group with a focus on reproduction quilts.  We gather once a month and just have a grand ol' time.  We typically have a project we work on in secret through the year and we unveil them at our December gathering.  This year it started with the History Repeated book.  We were to choose a quilt from the many gorgeous quilts in the book and make it for ourselves.

Last night we gathered for the reveal!

First up was Twyla....our fearless hostess!

GORGEOUS!  She selected the hourglass quilt from the book and we all ooohed and aaaahed at the stunning quilt top!  Just lovely!

Then it was time for Karen to share the quilt she chose to make....

and we all laughed because she chose the SAME QUILT as Twyla!  Another stunning hourglass quilt!

Here are their quilts side by side!  So lovely!  By this point I was thinking how much I love that hourglass quilt and I should put it on my list!

Then it was Jo's turn to share.  And just GUESS what quilt SHE chose to make??
OMG yes....ANOTHER hourglass quilt!!  We were really laughing at this point!

Three...count 'em...THREE gorgeous hourglass quilts!  Reproduction fabrics abound!  They were all just stunning!

Lisa sat quietly...with a slight, friendly smile...and then it was her turn to show her quilt.

And good grief.....
ANOTHER hourglass quilt!!!  Tooooo funny!!!!  Although Lisa did insert the tiny hourglass blocks in her quilt.

FOUR hourglass quilts!  And let me say that nobody shared what quilt they were working on through the year!  It was beyond funny!

Well...I was next up and no hourglass quilt from me....THIS year!  ;o)

I chose the double nine patch blocks...brown and shirtings set with cheddar.  We all know I love me some cheddar!

And then it was Kay's turn.....

STUNNING!!!  Is this not fabulous!?  I love this quilt and wish it was mine, but alas...tis not to be.  I'll have to make my own!  But I loved all the color!!

Kay and I laughed that we felt as if we weren't invited to the same party as the other we were left out of a secret pact or something!  ;o)

Another year...another quilt.....and another evening filled with fun,
friends, and laughter!

For the new year, we are again going to work from the History Repeated book.
I wonder how many duplicate quilts there will be December 2013?
Too fun!

Do you belong to a small group?
Have you made any of the quilts from the History Repeated book?
Have you laughed lately?
I hope so!  :o)

It's Been Good

This long holiday weekend has been good!
I've got the biggest part of the next quilt done!

I took naps!

There was knitting.....
and a tree now resides in the living room,

albeit undecorated.
If you're a long-time reader, you know every year I always say
I would be fine with nothing but the glow of white lights on the tree!
So calming!

The long weekend is winding down,
but it's been good!
I hope yours was good as well!

I think I'll have another slice of the
before I call it a night!

A Good Weekend, Indeed!

The broken dishes quilt is FINALLY done! I need to give it a good press and try and get some photos in the light of day. It ended up being 96x96, so I'm pleased and am fine if I don't see a half square triangle for quite some time!

Prepping, A Potluck...and a Sampler Kit Giveaway!

I've been busily stitching away on that secret stitching project, so have not really had much to share over the past couple of weeks!  I have guilt about that!  ha!

I did share recent stash enhancement, and several asked me what I was kitting up! Well...I'm prepping!  Not the doomsday kind (ahem...I question the sanity of some people).  Nope.  I'm prepping for a New Years Start!

The linen and most of the silks are for this!

Charlotte Clayton!  After seeing Deb's and Cari's...and looking online and finding Nicole's...and of course, Margaret's, well, it's time I bite the bullet!  Pay no mind to the pile of January 2012 starts that have yet to be finished.  Ahem.

Hmmm...maybe I AM a doomsday prepper, of the creative kind!  ;o)

That said, I do feel bad about my blogging absence and lack of interesting things to share with you!  So...I'm going to have a giveaway!  So at least when one visits my blog over the course of the next week or so, there's something worthwhile here!

I'm giving away a Scarlet Letter kit!

Because maybe YOU need to stockpile some stitching projects as well!

This is the Scarlet Letter sampler kit...Tablet Sampler.  Complete with 35 ct linen and DMC floss!  Opened for photographs, it's back in it's packaging and ready to head to a new stash!

If you'd like to add this one to your stash, just leave a comment here and share your favorite side dish/salad idea for Thanksgiving!  I'm wanting to expand my horizons and add a couple new things to the menu this year and would LOVE to hear what unique things you have on your Thanksgiving table!

So that's it!  Just leave a comment with your favorite side dish/salad idea, and you'll be entered.  I'll come back and draw a winner next Saturday!  Tell your friends and favorite stitchers and we'll have a big ol' cyber potluck right here on the blog!

And I go to get that secret stitching done!
Thanks so much for stopping by!

I went online to JJ's Collectibles to check out their sale a couple weeks ago. Decided I would try another skein of Pebble GAST for my And They Sinned cloud. Somehow a few other things found their way in to my cart! Oops! ;o)

Plans Postponed

When a Sampler Designing Rock Star asks you to do some secret stitching for her, you postpone your plans and pick up a needle! The quilt will wait. I've got silks to ply! Happy Weekend!

Surrounded By The Dishes

Finally!  I'm surrounded by pressed Broken Dishes blocks!  Whew!

I was asked recently how I approach scrap quilts if I don't use a design wall.  Well. Truth be told I don't stress too much about placement.  So long as two exact blocks aren't touching, I'm pretty okay with it!  This isn't supposed to be stressful!  I doubt the quiltmakers of earlier times planned and plotted and freaked out about scrap quilt block placement!

So here's how I will handle these.  First they will all get dumped in a laundry basket and mixed up.  I'll sit down and just randomly pull and sew blocks together, making sure I don't sew identical blocks together.

Another thing I don't do is work in rows.  Hardly ever will you find me sewing long rows together.  Instead I like to work in quadrants.  Much easier to handle for me!

So there you have it!  I'll be pulling blocks out of the laundry basket this upcoming week from time to time.  I hope this one goes together relatively quickly!  Sure seems like the quilt project that never ends!

Happy Saturday!

Quick and Not So Quick!

It's always nice to get a little quick fix of finishing something!  These little fingerless mitts were just the ticket for me this weekend!  Friday night I pulled out the leftover sock yarn from my Game Day "Go Cowboys" socks and cast these on.  Finished them up this evening!  After the Cowboys loss today, I like the fact that the coloring of these is such that I can also just call them "denim friendly" instead of anything Cowboys related and still feel good wearing them!  ;o)

True to form, as I worked on one project, I had my eye on another.  I've been perusing this....

and I'm getting in the mood to prep an applique quilt....or three!  I need to finish up that Broken Dishes quilt first, and get busy on another quilt that I'll be doing to share with my quilting small group by year's end.  But there are some lovely quilts in Barb Adams & Alma Allen's new book--"In The Meadow" that I can dream about starting, though they certainly won't be quick to finish.  That's okay though!

So tell was YOUR weekend?  :o)

No Rain!?

They said it was going to be a rainy weekend. But it's far from rainy. I was kind of looking forward to a rainy two days so I could spend some time down in the quilt den. Instead we've had a gorgeous weather weekend so I've been upstairs knitting! Started a quick pair of fingerless mitts with some leftover sock yarn. Gotta love a quick project! Lets hope it rains next weekend so I'm more inclined to be in the quilt den!

I'm On Deck!

On deck and waiting for my at-bat with the weekend! I'll be kicking it off early tomorrow and will be counting the minutes until 2:00! That's when I'll waltz out of the office with a spring in my step!

Tonight I thoroughly enjoyed the Veeps debate and am knitting a bit on the Hypotenuse Wrap. Really really liking this Silky Wool. And the project as a whole!

Another Step

Last night I finished sewing the individual broken dishes blocks! The clipping, snipping of dog ears, and pressing will save for another day! Maybe this weekend! Happy Wednesday!

The Side Effects of Startitis

They tell you it's harmless.......that case of Startitis.
 Go ahead...cast big deal!
You'll be FINE. But they don't tell you about the side effects.
(La Novia - Knitspot - Sanguine Gryphon Traveler in unknown colorway)

The inability to decide which project to work on.
(Hypotenuse Wrap - Knitspot - Silky Wool)
Putting time in on one, while you're 'cheating' with another project in your mind.
(Cambria Wrap - Sanguine Gryphon Skinny Bugga in Tomato Frog)
Trying to decide which you could actually finish first.
(Obstacles - Knitspot - Sanguine Gryphon Skinny Bugga in Florida Blue Centipede)
And the whole while....
(Pom Pom Peds sans Poms - Plymouth Yarn Sockotta Limited #9846)
plotting in your head which yarn you're going to cake up and cast on next!

And that's just the knitting strain!
The sampler stitching strain is active as well!

 Don't let them fool you.
This Startitis is a bad, bad disease!
Are you afflicted?
