Thrifty Thursday!

You would have done the same thing....wouldn't you?

If you quickly stopped in to your local G'Willy's haunt and spied these.

And even though French Provincial really isn't your big 'look', the caning was in excellent shape....they were all so very solid and sturdy.

And then you turn them over and you see this! Thomasville.

And a sign that said $7.50 each.

It's very true. I bought all four of them. A vision have I...another project. Another score!

You would have done the same thing...right?

Stealing a Moment

There's progress being made on the next quilt...

I steal a moment here and there to work on it.

This morning, rather than be around a certain crab ass that lives here, I retreated downstairs and finished up the sub-cutting.

That leaves lots of sewing to do.

I'll continue to steal a moment here, there and everywhere in the evenings this week. We'll see how much I can get done before the long holiday weekend!

Scaredy Cat Winner!

Thanks so much, everyone, for your interest in the Scaredy Cat yardage! I tried to upload a pic of the Random Number Generator results, but it's not very legible, so you're gonna have to trust me when I say it chose #3.

Laurie in Iowa! Congrats! Send me your address and I'll get the yardage off to you!

I've finally gotten back to stitching on the SDW sampler....hoping to have some real progress to show you! I'm waiting on some quilt batting to arrive so I can get Avery's quilt done, so in the meantime, I've also started piecing the next quilt!

Stay tuned!

Quick Quilt For Avery & a GIVEAWAY!

Last night I finished piecing the new quilt for Miss Avery Mae.

Nothing much quicker than a simple nine patch, yet it's one of my most favorite blocks EVAH!

Tomorrow when I get home from the office, I'll settle in for the weekend, spray baste this, and get it quilted on the Bernina. She'll be able to snuggle up with it in no time! That's the plan anyway!

Do you have your own "Avery" that you'd like to make a quilt for? I've got leftover fabric.

Even after using this for the backing, I've got about 3 1/2 yards left. It's from an older Minick & Simpson Moda line...Scaredy Cat. But it's not scary at all!

If you'd like the leftover one long running cut, just leave a comment. You'll have to pair this great fresh print with other fabrics of your own choosing. Though I paired it with a salmon color Bella Solid, it would look great with a celery green....or mixed in with lots of other prints! It's quite versatile!

Please be sure and leave a way for me to get in touch with you if you enter for the giveaway! I'll draw a winner via random number generator on Monday!

Thrifty Thursday!

A few treasures were found this week!

I love this wood carved and tiled tray!

and of course the pottery!

I also found a great piece of Gorham silverplate for two bucks!

A tooled leather belt and a distressed leather belt came home as well!

You'll see these again being repurposed as a strap for a funky handbag! It's on the to-do list!

What did you find this week?

Though much hasn't been happening here on the blog, things HAVE been happening around the house!

The sock before:

the sock after:

Ready for the heel flap!

My mom flew in from Dallas late last week for a weekend visit. We did spend a little time in the quilt den, and I got all the cutting done for an upcoming quilt!

Ready to sit and sew!!

But first...another nine patch!

I can't help it! Miss Avery needs another quilt, and I've had the fabric for a tonight I cut strips, sewed some blocks.....this one will be together in no time!

That's what has been happening around here! Hope you're enjoying your week!

As The Sock Grows

Time for a weekly update on "As The Sock Grows"

Here's where I left it last Saturday...

and here's where it is this morning....

Making progress! As some of you reminded me when I was lamenting about how slow I knit, I do work full-time and have other fiber arts that bide for my time and attention! I've been working on this sock in the mornings with my coffee before I get ready for the office. And I worked on it this morning with my coffee and CBS Sunday Morning. It's moving along just fine with a few minutes attention here and there!

Tune in next weekend for another episode of "As The Sock Grows" !

The Magic 8 Ball...It Didn't Lie!

It's done! All 90 x 90 of it!

Simple single irish chain.....can you see where I substituted another fabric for the light patches?

Look closer...

I must say I'm quite all just fades together!

The binding is cut.

Just need to pair it up with backing and it's ready for quilting!

Now I'm going to settle in with a needle and revel in the voice of Ray LaMontagne. He's on Palladia right now and I just LOVE him! It's going to be a great Saturday late night!

A Quilt Top Completion Today?

I asked the Magic 8 Ball if the queen size blue & white quilt top will be done today...

so I guess it must be true!

We shall see!

Happy Saturday!

Thrifty Thursday!

Saturday I spent much of the day with my pal, Blogless Kimm (Hi Kimm!) and we had a day of junkin', lunchin' and yappin'. She's always such great company and we have so many things in common, so it's always a treat to spend time with her.

I found this old Diet Rite crate...

and everything in it!

Another pewter porringer, some vintage dishes, a silverplate sugar bowl, old baseballs, and other things! All discovered at two local G'Willy's and a Y Thrift Store.

It was a wonderful day!

Too Much Fun!

It's been tons of fun around the house the last few days.

Avery came to spend the day....

and let me tell you...she is one little dynamo! Needless to say there wasn't much weekend sewing going on while she was here!

But I DID sit down and do some pedal-to-the-metal sewing BEFORE her arrival.

I'm making a little progress. You know's always 'go big or go home' as far as quilts go. Yep...this is another oversized queen in the making.

MAYBE I'll get it put together by the end of this coming weekend. Maybe. I catch a few minutes of sewing here and there before work...and sometimes after.

I've also went the 'go big or go home' route when it comes to luxury yarns too. But seriously....

how can you resist this? Cashmere and wool goodness. And the color....

LOVE me some Lubber Grasshopper. If you're not familiar with The Sanguine Gryphon line of yarn, you're missing out! Check out their website! Too much fun!
I've decided to use this lovely skein of Bugga! and participate in my first official KAL on Ravelry. I love Anne Hanson and all of her Knitspot patterns. I'm delving into my very first foray in knitting lace, but going with the easiest pattern I could find. The Hypoteneuse scarf will be cast on soon! I'm jumping in!

Snails Eventually Get To Where They're Going....Right?

It's no secret that I knit at a snail's pace.

Exhibit 1: Status of the sock last Saturday...

Exhibit 2: Status of the sock week later...

Clear evidence of knitting at a snail's pace. (Yarn: Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock in Frankenstein's Cotillion)

Snails really DO eventually get to where they're going...right?

If you aren't moving at a snail's pace, you aren't moving at all. -Iris Murdoch

Thrifty Thursday!

Here's my little $1.50 find for the week!

Isn't it funky-fun? I love it! Though you can't see it in the pics, it has some age...some crazing. Vintage funky! Somebody was artistic...

though it's not signed. Great graphic bird with fish scales....LOL Leave it to the hubs to point that out. He thinks the black section looks like fish scales AND he thinks they're going in the wrong direction. Ahem....I didn't know I was married to an art critic!

I love the bird with the backward fish scales!
