A New Quilt Start .....and knitting

True to my word I started a new quilt yesterday. I've had a Moda layer cake of the Retro Hello Betty taunting me for some time...so I paired it up with a pattern...

and got busy. Now I am not one that's uber-fond of making a quilt out of a particular line. I know lots of people do, and the quilts are gorgeous when finished. But I tend to want to inject something of my own in to the quilt...you know, mix it up a bit!

So I made a few blocks out of the Hello Betty Retro...

and then took a break and pulled some more fabrics to 'mix it up' a bit. I delved in to my Denyse Schmidt stash...a couple cute Alexander Henry prints...

I think they're all going to live together in perfect harmony!

I'm also planning to put my own spin on the pattern and not put the light border around it. Can you tell I quilt kind of like I cook...I use patterns and recipes as guidelines! and then do my own thing! I'm thinking of a piano keys border around it when it's done...but I'll wait until things start coming together before I decide. I also have a great Denyse Schmidt bias plaid that might be kinda fun! So we'll see. Clearly I have time to decide! ;o)

This evening I finally picked up that lingering second Green w/Envy sock and got to work on the 2 x 2 ribbing.

This Fiberphile yarn is a joy to knit with. Soooo soft! Every time I sit down for a few minutes to knit, I wonder why I don't do it more often! Oh wait..I know why...quilting, stitching, crocheting and all the rest! I'll just keep fitting it all in!

Speaking of crocheting, I'll show some progress next time on my GGS (Giant Granny Square)...it's coming along and my yarn cakes are collapsing so that's good! The yarn is being used!

As always, thanks for stopping by!

*Peace!

Mmmmm... delicious fabrics, Kim! I love that you mix it up a bit. It makes whatever you're creating a little more unique and a little more you. Love the color of the sock yarn, too!

Oh so pretty! I'm so glad you do your own thing with quilts -- it's quite inspiring! Me, I like having guidelines. lol! I never trust my own color instincts. I've done ok on my own, but having those handy dandy fabric lines sure is nice!

Great colors and patterns in those fabrics!! Can't wait to see how you pull it all together - you always do!

I like a gal who likes to mix things up and use a pattern as a jumping off point. Makes the quilt top your very own.

I'm very fond of those scrappy piano key borders too... that way no color dominates.

Gorgeous fabrics and I love the idea of quilting like you cook :-).

I tend to be a throw this and that in kind of cook, which means I am a terrible baker, LOL.

Wow, you weren't kidding when you said that you were quilting and knitting yesterday (in addition to playing doctor - LOL). Love the quilt and love the fabrics. I think I'm going to have to pull my pattern out!!!
