Calling All Stitchers!

As I sit here feverishly working on the BBD sampler...hoping to finish it this month...I can't help but let my mind wander to several BBBAPs waiting to be started....and so many of those big, big, big ass projects are looooong...as in the SDW sampler....And They Sinned.....Frances Burwell.....these projects, I feel, call for stitching on a frame. I typically use a tension hoop....suffering from hoop-hand from time to time...but I think since those 3 aforementioned projects are big and will take some time, I need to use a scroll frame.

So I am putting a call out to all you stitchers that love stitching on frames! What's your absolute favorite frame.....brand, size, style, lap or floor or both! Tell me why and please also help me by telling me what to look out for and what NOT to get! I'm all ears and can't wait to hear from you!

*Peace!

I only work on scroll frames and love them. My favorites are K's and you can get them here:http://www.kscreations.com/scrollframes.htm

I love the variety of sizes and the tension knobs are tri-cornered which makes them easy to tighten should you need to. I like the fact that you can keep your dominate hand underneath and never move ti (too much) and on BAP's like ATS, the edge of the rods can rest on a chair or table so you don't have to support it. I've worked some big projects on these (ATS, Mary Allen) and it worked great. Just be sure to roll your fabric so the stitched area rolls under so it stays clean. The main thing is to get your fabric sewn on straight. You'll love them once you get used to them, I think. Good luck - I'm anxious to see what everyone else says.

Sorry, I'm am in hand stitcher. You should try it sometime -- much easier! :D I used to use q snaps until I discovered how great freedom was. :D :D

I used to stitch in hand or with a hoop. The I discovered scroll frames. I use K's scroll frames that I ordered from Threadneedle Street. I don't use a floor stand just because I didn't want a huge piece of stand sitting in my family room. You can get all kinds of rod sizes from them. I think I have them from 6 inches all the way up to 30 inches. As Terri said above, the tension knobs are easy to tighten. I think that you would be happy with them!

Sorry, Kim..I TRY to use Q-Snaps sometimes, but mostly I stitch in-hand, mainly because I have to keep taking off my stupid glasses so that I can see up close. MM

I can't help you either Kim, I stitch in-hand. Hoops, Q-Snaps and rods give my major hand cramps.

I don't have room for a floor stand so I use K's lap frame and love it. As Deb mentioned, you can get the scroll rods all the way up to 30"........and if that's still not big enough you can put a piece in sideways like I did for And A Forest Grew. If I'm stitching a small piece I don't sew the linen to the rods, instead I pin it with quilting pins.

I used to work on scroll frames but because I need to take my samplers with me quite often I switched to hoops.
I have been suffering from hoop wrist (had a badly broken wrist) for a while so I sent to England and bought one of those Hands Free Seat Frames. I find it easy to use and my wrist doesn't ache anymore. When I need to take my sampler out of the house to stitch I just use one of my other hoops for a couple of hours.
The one I got has 3 different size hoops. I bought mine from here http://www.wye.co.uk/view/Hoops,_Frames,_Stands/Frames/Hands_Free_Seat_Frame/
