There....MUCH Better!

I like this combo MUCH better!

The plaids will give it that utilitarian look I love! Sorry pink and frills for this chick! Those other blocks just didn't do it for me at all. This will be much more to my liking!

And LOOK what arrived today! Some Moda Fabric yumminess!

Oh joy! Precut charm packs.....LOTS of 5" squares of the funky fabulouso goodness that is the NEST line! LOVE! Can't wait to get these into a quilt too! and maybe a bag...we'll see what's leftover!

It's been a busy week, as usual, and I am more than ready for the next two days off! I'm ready for some relaxing and hanging out.....I think Emmitt's ready too!

Think I'll go scoop him up and snuggle a bit! Temps are supposed to drop in to the low 70s tomorrow! PERFECT!!! It was too hot today...we saw 90......I'm done with that! I like that for about...oh.....a week. 70s are more my style! So glad fall is here!

What's That They Say About The Best Laid Plans?

UGH! I am NOT liking the way these quilt blocks are coming out! :o( I am kicking myself for the background's turning these too frilly...too Victorian looking. YUCK YUCK YUCK!

All's I see is PINK and VICTORIAN and that is soooooooooo far removed from me it's not even FUNNY! I question why on EARTH I even had MASS YARDAGE of this print!?!?! EGADS! I mean...yes it's lovely in its own right...Judi Rothermel prints are always lovely and period.....but I just can't wrap my mind around it.

I cannot go on......I cannot. It's a struggle to even LOOK at these things! YUCK! It's NOT the look I was going for! And so, because I am a spontaneous fiber artist...I am casting these aside (or on to Ebay) and starting over! OVER I say! Victorian I am not....I think I shall dig thru the stash for a nice plaid background....or something similar. No frills in this household!

After much perusing of quilt books and magazines, I have FINALLY decided what I'm going to do with these!

Stay tuned! I can't give away all the secrets right now! Gotta get you to come back ya know! ;o)

Hope your week was fine! I'm extremely glad it's Friday! I'm so sick of three-letter-acronyms!

AIG! UGH! I'm in the insurance business....and this week was filled to the guts with meeting after meeting after meeting about AIG. I found myself sitting in these meetings thinking of yarn and fabric and wondering why in the world I spend so many hours of every day dealing with this stuff! UGH!

Then there was that OTHER three-letter-acronym... DPN. Double pointed needles were NOT my friend when I tried to teach myself sock knitting. Perhaps I'm more of a Magic Loop kinda gal. Has anyone taught themself to knit socks with the Magic Loop method? Any pointers?

Okay--stay tuned for quilt progress! I'm heading down to the studio to figure out what background or backgroundS I will be using with those yummy blues and poison green!!!

Fish & Fauna on a Monday Night

Here's the fish......

wool fish even! I've just started this lovely trout needlepoint by Elizabeth Bradley. Figured I'd work on that while I watched the 'fauna' that are the Eagles get their asses plucked! WOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOO!!! How 'bout them Cowboys! A fantastic game!!! Those high scoring games are almost as much fun to watch as blow-outs...but only blow-outs at the hands of the 'boys! :o)

We are on our way!!! 2-0!!!

Some Sunday Sights

Isn't that the most beautiful color combo! And YUMMY! Oh my! I picked up a lovely bunch of Colorado peaches....ripe and ready, and some delish blueberries. Oh joy! Oh joy! They make the mouth sing! That was snack fare last night...and then this morning, I made some french toast and topped it with another batch of the peaches & blueberries. It does a body good!! And I just love the color combination. Makes me want to start a new quilt!!

And speaking of quilts....I worked this afternoon to cut out the wool appliques for the Christmas Rose quilt from the Primitive Christmas. If you've read my blog for any period of time, you will remember that I cook and quilt about the same...I cannot follow a recipe/pattern exactly as it's written...seem to have to change things up a bit. And so this one was no exception. First off, I didn't want it to scream "CHRISTMAS!!!" went with some different fabrics. Secondly, the pattern called for 4 blocks....and it would be a 30" square quilt...with the background fabrics also brought out in to the borders. Nope..couldn't do it. I made 3 blocks...

Now this can be a tablerunner, or a vertical quilt, or a horizontal quilt..just perfect for a little niche area! And I had to use the Brannock & Patek fabric in the's one of my favoritest prints and I just thought it worked really well with the warm tones of the homespuns and those yummy hand-dyed wools! Thanks again, Tammy aka !! Lovin' those wools and how cool that I had them all on my shelf at the ready! Having stash is good!

Now I wait. For some scrumptious Valdani pearl cotton threads I ordered for this one. I think they'll set it off perfectly! I have the wool marked and ready for the embellishing! This is fused down..... 'cept I don't fuse enough to do it properly, so they're not completely fused, which is apparent by the tips that are loose on the background fabrics!

That's okay....the blanket stitching and veining, etc will hold it all down. And I think I may handquilt this one. Perhaps with the big primitive stitch and those Valdanis! Yeah!

Hope you're enjoying your Sunday! I'm off to either 1) try and teach myself the socks... B) start some more knitted dishrags... or 3) work on a lovely Elizabeth Bradley needlepoint kit I started. It's a giant Trout! Lovely!

I Cannot HELP Myself...

Having come up to South Dakota from the great state of Texas...albeit the Dallas area...we still have been watching the weather intently down there, praying that the people of Galveston and Houston can weather the storm safely. Sooo...with all the weather coverage from the Houston and Galveston area.....I cannot help myself....

I hear one of the forecasters utter the word 'Galveston'...I break out in my best Glen Campbell impression

I can't help it!!

Galveston Oh GAL VE STON...

All of you in Houston &'re in our prayers! Stay safe!

Is it POSSIBLE? Can I DO IT???

Can I? Can I really teach myself to knit socks!? EEEEK! I have the DPNs and some cheap practice yarn...and the book.....and Lord knows I've been building a WONDERFULLY YUMMY stash of hand dyed sock yarns. *sigh* Can I DO IT?

Has anyone out there taught themselves to knit socks via book? Please...pointers would be welcome!

Art Addition

Saturday the hubster and I ventured downtown for the Sidewalk Arts Festival...hoping to score some more great pottery by my fav' pottery dude. Oh but alas.....he changed up his COLORS this year! WHA!??!?!?? None of the beautiful blue/red/brown earthtones that I love. Nope...he switched it up and went with sand and ivory. no pottery for me.

With the hubster along, we stopped at a couple different wildlife artists booths.....he's my big outdoorsman.....with mounted walleyes and other wildlife adorning the walls of his office. I'm not big into that 'look'....but it works in the office. Anyhooo...we stopped in the booth of Russ Duerksen, and we both really really liked this painting..

The autumn colors...the chickadees are lifelike..the leaves, they look like you can touch them! It's now hanging on the wall in our living room. I love new art! :o)

Back to creativity!

I promise I won't go all political on you! Though it's obvious I have some strong opinions! No apologies...

Still...let's get back to some creativity!

Look what I got yesterday out at Twyla's (Quilted Memories in Brandon.... This is a great new book!!! I love it!

Oops! Forgot to rotate it before I uploaded! Sorry! Just tilt your head to the left and you'll see it better! ;o)

There were several projects in this book that called to it's a good purchase! And look what my first project's going to be!!!!

Oh YUM! Yes...tis true...that's some super yummy homespun and my luscious wools from Skip To My Ewe (thanks again Tammy!). The stash is coming in handy!!! This little quilt measures 30" square! Oh how I love wools and homespuns!!! I may even start this one today!

Huh? What's that you say? What about my other applique project that I started a while ago...a couple of months ago?'s tucked neatly in it's project bag right here beside my easy chair! It'll have it's day. But for now....this one seems quicker to accomplish, so it's moving to the forefront!'s WOOL!!! C'mon! No brainer!!!!

Watched...cringed....don't like her....would not want her representing this fine nation as VP, or God forbid (and yes..I am a Democrat who believes in God...*GASP!* I know! Hard to believe! There are Christian Democrats out there!) was I? Oh! I wouldn't want her representing this fine nation in a Veep or Prez capacity. Absolutely not. Oh yah..dontchaknow....Alaskan villages are a far cry from the real world.

Junkin' and Border Patrol

Saturday was a FABULOUS day junkin'! We scored at a couple of Goodwill stores and one of our other favorite haunts, Well La De Da. I've decided to start a new collection! Oh joy! Oh Joy! I'm certain that's what the hubster was saying under his breath! ;o)

Silver and Silverplate! YAY!

TARNISHED silver and silverplate at that! ;o) It actually kind of started with the two sugar scoops/scuttles/shuttles in the pic...I was surprised to come across TWO of them..WITH their little scoops! It was a sign! I would begin to collect silver sugar scuttles! ha! It just ballooned from there!

Then there were the this HUGE vintage picnic basket...marked inside made in Peru...

Three bucks...gotta love it! It will be put to good storage use in the sewing studio!

Picked up a couple really nice glass jars w/lids....

also sure to be put to good use! and for 50 cents and a buck..well....yeah.

Also scored, but not pictured....two beautifully glazed handthrown pottery bowls...a cool pottery leaf dish...a pottery wine chiller...a handmade pottery vase..(yep...I have this thing for "rescuing" handmade, signed pottery). My pottery rescue duty was done for certain on Saturday!

Today--was border patrol day. I got the borders on the nephew's quilt...

AND also on the baby quilt for my bonus sister's little darling! Twyla..if you're reading this....they'll be on their way out to you for quilting!

As usual....the weekend is never long enough..even when it's extended. But it was productive and somewhat relaxing so that's all that matters!
