Good Grief---It's NOT about the PLUMBING People!

Seriously.....I was a little insulted when it was announced who McCain's VP pick was....with my first thought being "Does the Republican Party think women are THAT shallow that the Hilary voters will vote for him because he added a woman to the ticket?" Seriously! IT'S NOT ABOUT THE PLUMBING!!!! Give me a break!

And then last night....I got a good laugh out of this as well!

I DO Love the JUNKIN!

Yes I do....and here I am...Friday night...on the eve of another fabulous and sure-to-be-fun Junkin' day with my bud, Kimm! Oh I hope I can sleep tonight! We always have so much fun searching for treasures....and we always seem to find a few!

I thought I better share my treasures from last Friday with you...since I'm sure to have more to share after tomorrow!

I didn't take pics of this, but I picked up a great HUGE vintage green hard sided suitcase...score! as the inside is in IMPECCABLE condition....and it's HUGE! $12 was the price tag on that! When I figure out how I'm going to use it...I'll post a pic!

I also picked up this cracked and wired 3 gallon Red Wing crock...

It's seen better days...but the color on the front was still great...and it's serving a great purpose under my cutting table catching scraps! And for $8...well...had to get it!

Lastly...I rescued a quilt....a very very lovely shabby cottage looking floral embroidered, hand-quilted quilt! THIRTEEN DOLLARS! Seriously....$13. Sad. ALL the hand work in this thing! Granted, it is NOT my's pastel and soft and disrepair in spots....but look...

So that's why I had to save it from the "1/2 off" table. I gladly paid the $13. I thought of folding it up and adding it to my stack...but then thought this unknown quilters beautiful handwork should be admired....and displayed. It does not fit in decor, so I've just listed it on Ebay this evening, hoping that it will go to a lovely home where someone will completely admire the work that went in to this! Those flower embroideries are BEAUTIFUL! If you're interested, my seller name on Ebay is kwiltykim and you'll find the listing. I hope she goes to a loving home!

I can't WAIT to see what I find tomorrow! I do love the junkin!

Tomatoes were calling out from the garden I made this

The fam loves it when I make salsa....even when it's SUPER DEE DUPER HOT HOT HOT! And this batch is DEFINITELY hot!

Hmmmm.......suppose it has anything to do with these?

I used one of each....jalapeno..serrano..and scotch bonnet. Woo doggies! Bring on the Boulevard and chips! It's yummy! I never bother with canning or preserving always gets eaten up promptly...even when it's hot!

I've been down in the studio working on the nephew's quilt off and on today...and also hit a fabulous primitives and shabby chic tag sale...played my cards right and got there after they marked everything 1/2 off! I got 3 nice items...I'll share more later on those. I'll have to take some pics.

Hope your weekend's been relaxing!!!

Remember when you were a kid...and you went the drive-in with your mom & dad...and you had a big paper grocery bag of popcorn...cooler full of pop....all cozy in your jammies...with your favorite pillow and sleeping bag and/or blankets...and you camped out in front of the car on that grassy hump..and you could hear the movie thru the blaring speakers attached to all the cars? Remember? And remember the break between movies.....the dancing refreshments....with the Hotdog jumping in to the this will jog your memory...talented hotdog is at about 8:06 in...

Anyhooooooooo.....intermission.....yeah....that's where my blog's been the past week! I'll be back the meantime...enjoy the dancing refreshments!

Still Pondering.....

Okay...I thought I knew what I was going to do....I *THOUGHT* I was going to sew the blocks together as the pattern shows and then just do an 8" border of the black....but then....nah...I really like the way the black sashing breaks things up! So then I thought...okay...THIS is what I'm going to do:

2" black sashing with batik cornerstones and then a 1" finished inner border of batik and bring the black out in the border again. Simple enough...right? Decision made?'s not how I operate this evening, apparently! ;o)

Now I'm ponding THIS:

What about FRAMING out the blocks with 1" finished batik strips and THEN the 2" black sashing w/batik cornerstones and THEN float the 1" batik inner border and bring out the black in the outer border? I just love that pop of electric that's why I'm thinking of framing the blocks in that. Maybe then the outer border isn't necessary? UGH! Still pondering......

A decision?

So I'm working on my nephew's quilt. And I keep going back and forth. Sashing? No sashing?

Black sashing?

Batik sashing?

Blocks sewn altogether like the pattern calls for, without sashing?

This is NOT the time for indecision to strike! What did I decide? Hmmmm....stay tuned!

A Vaca Melee!

Aaaah....I'm not at the office today......vaca day! 3 Day Weekend! WOOHOO!!! WHAT will the long weekend bring?

So far this morning, I've used my new cutting table to cut out a funky quilt for my cool nephew, Jay! He's the same age as the Jakester...and thinks I'm this cool hippie aunt (I do not KNOW what gave him that idea, but we'll just go with it). He's in a band...a guitar freakster...and just a cool kid! And he wanted me to make him a quilt. Soooo...I've got a block done...

Kinda I'm using medium black/white prints for the background...and that dunky blue/green/black batik for the inside "frame". The pattern calls for the blocks to all run together...but I think that MAY be a little much with all of the black & whites...soooo....I'm altering it a bit (as I seem to tend to do frequently)...I'm going to put a 2" sashing of that black print between each block. And I think a little cornerstone of the batik! I hope it turns out as good as I'm envisioning it...and I hope Jay likes it!

**EDIT** I look at the pic...I'm wondering if I should maybe think of doing the BATIK as the sashing....of course I'd have to run to the quilt shop and hope they have enough of it left on the bolt...I don't know. What do you think? I kinda think that black "calms" down the block busy-ness.....and perhaps with the batik as the'll still have a nice presence in the quilt. I'm not sure that the batik as the sashing will calm anything down...decisions decisions! Any opinion?

In other news...tonight the Olympics begin....maybe I'll watch while I'm in the quilt studio sewing quilt blocks!

I'm excited to see what the day brings today....hope you're having a GREAT Friday!

Blades will be ROLLIN'!

Ta Da! Here's my birthday prez....I love it! Though from the looks of that BLURRY ASS picture, I need to move "new camera" to the top of my wish list and soon!! But I am super excited about having a proper cutting table now!!! I have been, for YEARS, using the back of my sewing machine cabinet to cut out my quilts......can you say UPPER BACK PAIN!? Yeah....needless to say I wasn't getting a ton of cutting was literally a pain to do! But NOW! WOW!!!!

Thanks, Honey! :o)

43 Ain't So Bad!!!

Well it's Happy Birthday to me today....but Blogger's not cooperating with pic loading tonight, so I can't show you what I got...but it's good!!! :o) The hubster came through with a FABULOUS HUGE industrial cutting table that I LOVE and it's taken up residence in the quilting studio!!!! Pics whenever Blogger will allow.....but trust's awesome! We found this cool big-ass workbench at the home improvement store...and the handy-dandy-hub retrofit a fabulous top to make it wider for me! Can you say 72" x 32" of PURE CUTTING HEAVEN! It's fabulous! I'm so excited to spend long durations of time down there cutting out quilts!

It was a great day.....middle child delivered roses and a balloon to me at work...completely suprising me. The hub and Jakester showered me with cards and kisses and coffee refills and carrot cake......and it was a fine day! 43 ain't so bad. I own every one of these years! Yeah baby!!!

Gotta love a SALE!!!

WOOOOOOOOOOOHOOO!!! Did I score yesterday or WHAT!? Yep..scored! pal Twyla out at Quilted Memories ( was having an anniversary SALE yesterday! Yep...a sale! 25% of COURSE I was there. First had to go get smooshed and smashed for the wonderful annual rack exam......but then...all bets were off and I was headed out to Brandon!

After a couple hours....this is what I came home with!! First let me say Miss Twyla carries yummy civil war repros that I LOVE!!! Sooooooooo...without further the new additions to the stash

Indigos, Repros & Shirtings...OH MY! LOVE! :o)

LOVIN this poison green with the indigos....

Yessirreeee...these will live forever in perfect harmony in a yet-to-be-determined quilt! I love this combo!

I would have been okay had I not decided to empty the bolt on several of my favorite pieces...but I couldn't just say '1/2 yard please'. :o)

I also picked up a little book and a pattern for a quilt for my nephew....

The lone pattern, Boxed Blessings, is very cool! I can't wait to dig in to that one. I met the young and talented Ingrid Barlow Saturday as well...she is the creator of the pattern! Check out her great patterns on her website( I love her 'modern traditionalist' tagline!

Yep it was a fine Saturday! We smoked a brisket and had that for dinner last night. Yum!

Today has been relaxing....I just pulled brownies out of the oven....cleaned up the kitchen...and getting ready to pick up a needle. I've been working a bit on the Ann Rayner 1839 sampler, and think I'll put some more time in with her today!

Hope your weekend's been relaxing!!
