We took a drive out to the ski park to watch Jake do some snowboarding...and then it was dark so we drove to Falls Park to see it all lit up in it's holiday splendor
The pics aren't the greatest (arm out the window as quickly as possible-----did I mention it's flippin' COLD here???) but hopefully you get the idea...it was beautiful...all the lights and the snow......beautiful because you didn't see the dirty muddy ugly snow.....
And the blue hue you see below---they have laser lights cast on to the frozen falls and I happened to snap when the lights were changing to blue. Again---remember when you look at the picture quality----flippin' cold----LOL
We then came home and enjoyed a yummy dinner of filet mignon and garlic mashed potatoes...it was heavenly! And now, I sit with Green Tree sampler....slowly stitching.
I've been pondering my New Year's projects----have to start a new quilt---and a sampler. Sooooooo....I know what the quilt project will be, but am trying (still) to decide on my sampler start! Here are the contenders:
Three Things by Moira Blackburn (I LOVE Moira's designs soooooooo much!)
Grazing Sheep by Scarlet Letter (A last year's Christmas gift from my dear dear friend, Paulette)
Dorothy Preston sampler (I purchased silks and linen I think in 2006 for a 2007 start...or maybe it was 2005 for a 2006 start??...anyhoo...decided to switch linen counts but still have the silks so I could start "Dot" as well)
I also want to get busy busy busy on And They Sinned. I have sorta started it....I have a serpent and part of the cloud done I think.....so it's not really a start, but rather a stitching goal for 2008!
I also want to start Dutch Beauty (again) in 2008. I started her...had her 1/2 done...40 count and AVAS...HATED the linen and silk combo...it was NOT enjoyable to stitch with those materials....so adopted her out and will REstart her on different linen. Just need to decide DMC or Hand Dyed Fibers silks in the dark colorway. I'm leaning toward the HDF Dark Colorway.
Lofty stitching goals galore and I need to just make a decision about my tomorrow start and go from there!!!!! Sooooooooooo....I will decide...and I will post my decision and my new quilt start tomorrow! Oooooh the excitement builds! ha!
Until then............here's hoping your bubbly is bubbling! *Peace!*

I finished the quilt!!! YAY!!! Here's an overview shot:
I love the colors in this one...doesn't hurt that there's red in it either!
Well..I was so pleased with myself for finishing that up...that I loafed around and again, got sucked in to this laptop and football for most of the afternoon, but I did stitch some on The Green Tree sampler by Moira Blackburn. No way is it going to be completed by year end, but here's my progress on that:
I hope to get a LOT more done on that tomorrow.
I'm trying to decide whether to take the Christmas tree down tomorrow or not. Brennan won't be here until Tuesday morning....and honestly, I don't think he'd care in the least if the tree is up or not...so I may get that down and get the living room back to a somewhat normal state. Isn't it bad luck to bring in the new year with the tree still up or something? Or something! ha!
I'm going to snuggle in with the sampler stitching and watch Breakfast At Tiffanys, which I DVRd this morning! Happy Sunday night! I'm glad I'm off until Wednesday! So relaxing!!!! Until tomorrow! *Peace!*

A couple bottles of Yellow Tail and all the makings for some fabulous dips and snacks....some brie in the frig waiting for it's time to come out and soften up....but I forgot the fruit! So the brie must wait. But........there's PLENTY of time! I have a FOUR DAY weekend! WOOWOOWOOOOOOOOO!!!! What a way to bring in the new year!
Today was spent sewing a little on the oriental homespun quilt....should be all done tomorrow morning at some point! It's laid out downstairs with sections sewn...waiting for the last sewing of sections and it's done! I've decided against a border, mainly due to the pattern and the fact that I would have to float a skinny border, and, well, trust me. No border.
Brennan called this morning and said he's hopping on a Greyhound in the morning and will be here in a day or so from California....not sure for how long. He says a few days.....so we'll see. It will be SOOOOOOOOOO good to see that kid! LOL He's been gone since May.......he sounds a little more mature when he calls, so I guess that's good! He's 21...and friends tell me he'll grow up by the time he hits 27....I don't know if I will survive that long! LOL
In other news, I've had numerous emails and inquiries regarding choosing colors and fabrics for quilts, etc. and so have decided in the new year to try something new. I'm going to offer a limited number of kits for the quilts I make! I will probably show them here first and let interested parties contact me for purchase. Otherwise there's always Ebay and/or Etsy. Any thoughts on this? Please let me know!
Until tomorrow......oh! and BIG BIG BIRTHDAY WISHES AND HUGS to my soon-to-be sis-in-law, Mona, in Dallas! Love ya like a sis, girl!!!!

and you know the rest of that one! Hope you and your family are tucked in somewhere warm and ready to nestle in and celebrate the birth of Jesus. I have been reminding myself to keep that in the forefront this year.
It's certainly sad that I don't have Dad around this year....he was such a Christmas nut....and my older two kids are not here in SD either....Ashley is in Ohio and Brennan is partying in Mexico. So it's the hubby, Jake and I. And it's...well...frankly...it's quite odd!
I think Jake pretty much knows what he's getting...so really no surprises....and he's 13, so he knows there's not really a Santa....and so it's just kind of weird!!!! The tree isn't completely inundated with gifts under it, as in years past. Again---see above---two kids missing. ha! My family does not live nearby....they're in Texas, Kentucky and Ohio.....so that whole empty nest thing is really hitting home this year.
This has all kind of caught me off-guard it seems! This whole settling down of the Christmas hub-bub. Odd....very very odd. How does one cope?
But we shall persevere! We're still having our traditional Christmas Eve oyster stew....as a side with steaks and shrimp tonight...tomorrow is prime rib and relaxation! And it's back to work on Wednesday.
If you are lucky enough to have your big happy family around you, enjoy and celebrate! Merry Christmas to everyone!

I don't know if its the saturation of color or what...and of course I love the mixture of the primitive plaids with the fancy schmancy oriental. Yes indeed...I will enjoy this quilt! And Melissa...sorry! I forgot to answer your question before. I don't know how many quilts I've made....I've given away a chosen few...to family...a couple to friends...have sold many, many, MANY tops that I didn't feel like having quilted (tastes change, etc)...and yes...there are quilts all over the house! From the wall in the kitchen, to covering the kitchen table, to the stack in the living room, on the backs of chairs, on beds (hey--there's an idea! use quilts on BEDS! LOL That's what my hubby would say!)...I love them! One year I was on a mission to deplete the stash...yeah...never happens! But I did piece 36 quilt tops that year. And I'm not into making small quilts....so they were lap size and up.
So it's beyond me why I still get excited about the prospect of another quilt finished and more on the way! It's a passion. :o)
Hubby went out and exercised his passion yesterday.......hunting. Obliterating our lovely fine feathered friends. Aaaaaaah the sport of it all. ha! I'm not an outdoorswoman in the least...can you tell? ;o)
But now we have pheasant in the fridge....and I am sick of pheasant recipes that start out with "Take on can of Cream of Mushroom soup...". YUCK! Does anyone have any recipes other than "cook the bird in cream of xxxx (insert type of soup here) soup in a crockpot or oven"???? If you do, please enlighten me on the joys of eating pheasant in some other way! Recipes please!
I leave you with a parting shot of MY lovely pheasant......a German glass ornament on the tree! Until next time.....8 days and counting!

LOLOL...the PIZZA MAN sent me a Christmas card! LOLOL I just found this hysterically funny!!! What does that say about me??? Hmmmm....do you suppose I order a LOT of pizza from The Pizza Man? Oh goodness....this provided such a laugh today!
Lest you think I have no talent in the kitchen.....here's what my today has consisted of!
Million Dollar Chocolate Peanut Butter Walnut Fudge:
Rolo Pecan Pretzel Candy:
Mexican Wedding Cookies (aka Snowballs, hubby's favorite:
and OMG this stuff is sooooooooooo addicting and fabulous!!!! Cranberry Salsa:
This stuff is addicting. Seriously! Don't say I didn't warn you! It's a little sweet, a little tangy, and the KICK of cilantro and jalapeno...oh YUM! A gal brought some in to the office yesterday and everyone was hooked! So of course I came home and googled it...found a recipe right away at allrecipes.com and Walaah! Another reason to use my food processor! YUM YUM!
So as you can see....it's been a busy Saturday! On to the laundry room and maybe even some sewing! Hope your Saturday has been busy and fun as well!

Yes..it's true...I'm actually stitching again! I'm working on The Green Tree Sampler by Moira Blackburn....doing my own conversion with different over dyed threads on a piece of Golden Streak linen.
I'm to the first grove of trees. Now...do I realistically believe I can finish this by year's end? Probably not. Although stranger things have happened and it would be nice to have it done!
My mind has been wandering....trying to decide my New Year's Day starts...I ALWAYS start a new quilt on New Year's Day and a new stitching project! So many to ponder!
I'm also looking to next weekend, when I plan to do holiday baking! Not too much.....
*Chocolate Peanut Butter Fudge
*Mexican Wedding Cookies
*Peanut Butter Kiss Cookies
*Pretzel Rolo Candies
That's a good start. We have a wonderful next door neighbor that always brings a big plate of goodies over.....all SORTS of different stuff! So there won't be a shortage of treats!
OMG Heart Attack Sunday! Not only was I PEEVED that the local Fox affiliate opted to show some lame lame lame MOVIE after the NFL Pre-Game show instead of the COWBOYS game....but I opted to "watch" it play by play online....which is really not watching it at all but rather reading what happens after every play. And OMG it's probably a good thing I wasn't actually VIEWING the game or I'd have been a basket case! BUT...we did prevail in the end....but hey...Tony...c'mon....let's get business taken care of EARLY next week so I'm not all anxious and tense at the end of the 4th quarter! Okay babe? Thanks!
I'm heading downstairs to do some laundry....and yes...the washer is STILL not fixed----another note to self "Self--call a repairman to FIX THE WASHER!". Heck..maybe I'll just make that a New Year's goal so I can mark an easy one off the list! ha! Anyhoody...since I'll be downstairs waiting to switch washer cycles, I'll work on those quilt blocks! Would be SWELL to have that done by end of next week. We'll see....we'll see........
Until next post....*Peace!
Saturday, December 08, 2007
This morning I made it down to the quilting room to work on the yet-to-be-named-or-pattern-to-be-shared oriental/homespun quilt. I pressed fabrics, cut strips and..AND sewed strip sets! YAY! Quite the progress!
I took a break and came upstairs...pulled out the leftover homemade cranberry sauce and peeled some granny smith apples...and made a most yummy cranberry apple crisp! It's good! Not too tangy...not too sweet....just right!
Then it was time to run the Jakester and a buddy out to the ski park...snowboarding awaits ya know....so that took a while.....and I stopped at the post office on the way home and lo and behold...a package! I love packages! It was this YUMMY YUMMY hand dyed sock yarn! Isn't it scrumptious??
I love it! Can't wait to dig in to it! I finally have my DPNs and will start with the book and make the little practice sock...soon.....not today...but soon I will!
Then it was back downstairs to press strip sets....here's proof of that happening:
I then made all my subcuts and have begun the blocks. And I must say I love the way the fabrics are playing off of each other!
I've since took a break from downstairs and plan to whip out a needle here any second...after I finish off the pizza sitting here waiting!
Hope your Saturday's been fun!

I was so pleased with the way my other oriental/homespun mix quilt turned out...I'm going to make another! You'll have to stay tuned to see what pattern I've picked! Oooooh.....the suspense! Can you STAND it!?!?! LOL
Now...I know I'm either A) in serious Stash denial or 2) a super smart Stash shopper.....I first pulled fabrics....started pulling fabrics...then started perusing books and such for the pattern. Found a pattern...super easy and will let the fabric have all the glory! I then decide to read the pattern and check yardage and hope I have enough! I know...it's a little ass backwards but that's just the way I work! LOL The pattern calls for one cut that is almost 2 yards (that would be the red fabric) and another that is just 1 1/2 yards (the beautimus blue oriental) but I've decided to add a border with the same fabric, and so I say to myself that I would need at least 3 yards of the lovely blue oriental......what are the odds? Seriously.....I have a 3 yard cut of the red AND a little over 3 yards of the BLUE! OMG it was meant to be! When I was stash building....I never ever ever purchased fat quarters. I was a "gimme 1/2 yard" or "gimme 3 yards" kinda stash buildin' quilt shop hoppin' gal! And man am I glad I was pathetic in that way! ha!
Soooooooo.....I'm excited to whip out this quilt...I have always loved this blue oriental on my shelf...and will love it even more in a quilt! ;o)
Folks---we are ALMOST to FRIDAY!!! YEAH!!! We can do it!!! C'mon...say it with me..."I can make it thru this workweek.....I can make it thru this workweek."

Enter---REALITY! Hubby comes out...turns on the TV to the gloomy news of the day (I hate network news...seriously....I seriously detest the news and refuse the watch it....I selectively READ news online, but I will not have it piped in to my head via 50" plasma TV)....and it's time to get in the shower and get ready for a day at the office...where everyone is so damn HAPPY and POSITIVE----not! LOL
Happy Monday everyone.......

Game OVER! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOO!!!!
In case you missed it....or you're all entangled in that NFL Network controversy with your cable provider......
T.O.....I love me some you, too! LOL He cracks me up! LOLOL

I've got a small jump on the Christmas shopping, the tree is up and twinkling, though no decorations are on it yet. I like it just fine with white lights, but we will get around to adding all the ornaments, etc.
A big pot of 'leftovers' soup is on the stove and is it ever yummy! Leftover celery & carrots from the relish plate sauted in some EVOO and butter...then chopped up leftover turkey...added the 1/3 bottle of leftover Cline Zinfandel.....added chicken broth...some select spices....the leftover turkey gravey....and it actually is quite yummy! I heated up the leftover stuffing and the leftover mashed potatoes....for scooping up and adding to the soup bowl! I chose to enjoy mine with a few scoops of stuffing. It was really good!
I've been de-stressing with some stitching this afternoon....working on The Green Tree Sampler by Moira Blackburn. A very enjoyable stitch to wind down the weekend and prepare to head back to the office!
I just love this time of year...and the impending New Year...so full of hope and promise for change! It reminds me of one of my favorite sayings...
You will remain the same until the pain of remaining the same is greater than the pain of change.
For some reason this has sprung back into my brain of late and I keep repeating it to myself. Why is it that 'change' can be so painful...or at least so SCARY! It shouldn't bring panic and fear.....I'm going to keep reminding myself of that....and remind myself to look at the thought of change as an adventure! A new life chapter! Great things will happen! Of that I'm sure!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

And today---well---I'm just basking in the glory of knowing that it's only FRIDAY! OMG that's just AWESOME!!!!! I plan to do a little spot cleaning and perhaps think about my next quilt...and/or stitch on a sampler. I'm not QUITE in the mood to drag the Christmas tree and decorations up from the basement...at least not just yet. Maybe late tonight. We'll see!
I decided NOT to venture out for the Black Friday INSANITY! One nice thing about just having one child left at home...shopping is easier! The older two are on the west coast and in Ohio, so gift cards are in their future. It's what they want AND easy to ship! So it works for everyone! And so that just leaves the 13 year old to actually shop for. His list is fairly easy, and I'm all about online shopping when I can! So I feel that the odds of having Christmas purchased AND wrapped early this year are pretty darn good!!! I'm not going to know how to act if I'm not up until 1AM on Christmas Eve night wrapping the last gifts and sneaking them under the tree while everyone else is snoozing with visions of sugarplums......yeah. It's going to be GREAT! :o)
This evening will be yummy turkey roll-ups! YUM! You dredge little pieces of leftover turkey in a butter and garlic sauce...and then roll them up in tiny triangles cut from crescent rolls....sprinkle with pepper and parmesan and bake. Spear a toothpick with a green olive and then the turkey roll up and PURE HEAVEN! Jake and I are very excited to munch on these...as they are one of our fav' parts of the days after Thanksgiving! Hubby doesn't care for them, so MORE for Jake & me! YAY!!! :o)
Okay---I'm off to run the vacuum, switch laundry loads, light a candle, pour a cup of java and either peruse thru fabric and think up the next quilt, or stitch! I'll check in later! Enjoy your day!!!
Wednesday, November 21, 2007
Okay---time to ready myself for this work day. Hope all of you are either traveling to loved ones homes or readying traditional recipes and pies in preparation for tomorrow!!!! Happy Wednesday!
Sunday, November 18, 2007
Such a bittersweet time is fast approaching....I'm just not sure what this holiday season is going to be like without Dad. *SIGH* I think I may be a bit depressed, blog friends. But, alas, I try to bring myself up and out of it every day.
Thanksgiving is coming up FAST!!!! And it's going to be very very strange, because it will just be hubby, Jake and me. Ashley (DD) is in Ohio, Brennan (DS) is on the west coast, Mom will be in Atlanta, and my brothers are in Texas, Ohio and Kentucky. When the holidays arrive, then I do wish even MORE that we all lived within 8 hours from each other, at most. So we can all get together and annoy each other for the holidays. LOL But, it's just not meant to be for now. And so....it will be a little smaller crowd for turkey day!
Of COURSE this does NOT mean that I will scale down the menu in the least little bit! It just means that FINALLY we will truly have tons of leftovers to mess with! YAY!!!!
My dear friend, Paulette, has posted her menu on her blog, and I thought that was a fabulous idea! And so I will follow suit, if for no other reason, than to remind me what all I intend to make!
Green Bean Bake
Sweet Potatoes w/Marshmallows
Mashed Potatoes and Gravy
Whole Berry Cranberry Sauce (YUM!)
That's the basic menu we've had for FOREVER! I usually try and find one new side dish to make, and so, I will be on the hunt for something new to add to the mix this year! Maybe something to do with mushrooms....hmmmmm.....any suggestions for a new side dish? Feel free to leave a comment! I would love to hear about any unique food dish traditions you might have!
Until next time....I'm going to pick up a needle of some sort and relax for the day! Happy Sunday!
Monday, November 12, 2007
Yes....that's my signature style....pile it on! More is me!
And in my decorating........
Lord knows I couldn't just have a FEW antique glass creamers! No sirreeeee......must have MORE!
In my quilting even-----fabric selection----well.....again, more is me! I LOVE scrap quilts! The more fabrics the better!
Scrappy is heaven to me! I love it! Want to use it all...IN THE SAME QUILT! But hey...that's just me! Scrap quilts abound....I prefer working with a scrappy palette more than any other....
So imagine my surprise when it seems that I actually really like this latest quilt! The guts are done...just have to put the border on and call it good!
I am just not a "planned" or "three, four, or even five color" quilt person! Two-color quilts---I'm all over those! LOVE 2 color quilts! But a planned 3 fabric or 4 fabric, etc....it's a struggle for me to enjoy it! But this one I do like! Maybe because it's got all of my favorite things...RED...STARS...PEARS....Brannock & Patek fabrics! LOL
Once this is finished...I'll be all calm and sedated and can crank it all back up a notch with some horrendously scrappy quilt! I can't wait!!!!! *Peace!*
Saturday, November 10, 2007
I'll tell you that I have been working diligently today on the red stars quilt....the rows are all pieced and I've started sewing the rows together......hoping to have all that done tomorrow and then it will be border time. And I would HOPE that the spousal unit will bring my digital camera back to me so I can post some pics! ;o) In the meantime, you'll just have to visualize!
Stay tuned...hope to have visual updates tomorrow! Hope all is well in everyone's section of the world! *Peace!*

I haven't been spending much time in the sewing room though. These are components for my version of the vintage red stars quilt I showed in a previous post:
Surely will be a lovely quilt when finished! How can it not be---what with all of those yummy wonderful Moda fabrics...have I ever documented how much I LOVE Moda fabric? I LOVE MODA FABRIC! Just wanted to get that out there...ha! Okay---and it has RED in it...my favorite color...and I'm using that fabulous pear fabric from a Brannock & Patek fabric line (Say It With Flowers) from a few years back.....lots of wonderful components that should make me really want to work on this! But.........here's the state it's in:
What is wrong with me? LOL I'm not really in the mood to do much of anything lately. I DID get a lovely new contraption......does this make me a knitter now????
I own a fabulous yarn swift sort of thing now! Lovely! Note the fabulous handspun angora bunny yarn that's waiting........what, might you ask, is it waiting for? Well...it's waiting for the Royal yarn ball winder to arrive in the mail that I also ordered. Then I can magically transform my skeins of handspun yarn into center pull balls and how cool will that be? But in the meantime...here it sits.....
Soooooooo....I think I'll do this. I will put a pot of coffee on.....start some laundry.....do some piecing on the red stars for a bit.....then at some point retire to the living room to stitch on Fran...and maybe bake today. Now..off I go to find that motivation to accomplish all this! :o) I'll report back with any progress! Enjoy your day!
Sunday, October 21, 2007
How's THAT to pique your interest? ha!
I've been working away on the red stars quilt.....but have no photos to share with you right now because I'm too lazy to go downstairs and take any!
It's been a rainy and chilly day today......yesterday was beautiful! 70s! Perfect! Today---rainy and 50s...but hey, the Cowboys won! YAY! So all is good in my world.
I'm getting ready to *GASP!* pick up a needle and stitch for a bit! Paulette---you can pick your jaw up off the floor now! ha! Just kidding! I am going to work on Fran though, and will post a progress pic at some point this week!
Take care! :o))
UPDATE--Progress pic of Fran---she's not holding my interest.....UGH! Maybe if I stop working on the boring sky/cloud thing and work on something more colorful, fun and small! :o)
Saturday, October 13, 2007
It's a photo of an antique quilt....MAN I love those red stars!!! Soooo....this is my next project. I already have fabrics pulled......and so I'll be posting my progress as I go along! I may get some cutting done yet this evening...otherwise that will be a fine Sunday project until the football game starts! :o)
I've also been stitching on my Frances Eden sampler. If I think of it....I'll get a picture posted of my progress on that beauty! She's going to be quite the substantial sampler once I get her all stitched! I'd say I'm about half finished with her!
Nothing on the knitting needles at the moment, though I do have the Sensational Socks book on order, and have the LYS on stand-by for one-on-one lessons in DPN sock knitting if needed. ;o) I'm excited about learning to knit socks! Have you SEEN all the yummy sock yarn out there? OMG! T*R*O*U*B*L*E !!!! LOL
I'm off to the sewing room.....have a great night!
Monday, October 08, 2007
The heart was pounding and racing....the family is asleep....I think I threw my shoulder out triumphantly pumping my fist and jumping around the living room...albeit silently...so as not to wake the sleeping family. WOW! I won't be able to sleep until 2AM now! LOL
Hope you enjoyed the game if you watched it. Whether you were for the Cowboys or not...it was a great game! :o)
Saturday, October 06, 2007
I think it's all about the face time! ha! JUST KIDDIN Paulette!!! :O) You know I love ya! For those of you who don't know her...she is a very gifted and talented artist...currently designing her own line of needlework samplers! You can see her work here http://www.plumstreetsamplers.com/
Some day I hope to design some samplers of my own! But for now...I live vicariously through Paulette! :o)

I just love the mellow-ness of the civil war prints! So worn looking....very nice! Love that barn red accenting in this one too! And the quilting....let me just say...I LOVE it! I asked her to do simple meandering or a psuedo-baptist fan, that she's used before, or something else if she thought it would be better and still look "old". And she DELIVERED! I LOVE this! Not sure if you can see it here in this next photo....
And this next quilt was an experiment....from my weird brain....I wanted to mix primitive homespuns with exotic oriental prints and I do like the way it turned out!
Do you like it? I just love experimenting with mixing fabrics that you wouldn't necessarily think of putting together! I've got the corners blunted on this one too......that should make for some fun binding...nothing too difficult! And the back is brushed homespun...so nice and snuggly!!!
And last...but certainly not least...I always love to have pictorial proof that a quilt I've given is being loved! And here's my Soon To Be Sis, Mona (Hi Mona!)....with her Bullseye quilt...we have twinner quilts! Isn't that special? She's just so awesome and I'm thrilled she loves her quilt!!
This afternoon I'll be watching the football games (sadly---not the Cowboys---since I'm here in ViQUEEN country, I'm stuck watching that pathetic team....GO PACKERS!!!!) and I'll be working on needlepoint background. I've just taken Red Velvet Cupcakes and a torte out of the oven.....will be frosting with yummy cream cheese frosting and topping that torte with cherry pie filling too! Feel the pounds.......LOL And I'm getting ready to start some creamy chicken noodle soup...courtesy of Paula Deen....I love watching the Food Network...and she recently had this dish on her stovetop....so I'm going to make it......nice cool rainy Sunday...what could be better! Enjoy your day!!!
Monday, September 24, 2007
First off -- no pic -- but I finished the scarf......decided to do indoor accessory style.....where you double it, wrap around the neck and pull thru the loop....that kinda scarf.....it's very colorful! I'll try and get a pick of it on my neck sometime and post!
One project done -- CHECK
Second project---the scrappy civil war quilt........finished piecing it all together yesterday BEFORE the Cowboys played!
I love the scrappiness of it all....and all the colors! Can't wait to get this quilted! I used a Miss Rosie's Quilt pattern....from one of her books.....I can't remember the name of the book...but it's her American Pie pattern....can be purchased separately I do believe.
Second project done -- CHECK CHECK
Then last night...while I watched my 'boys kick some Bear ARSE (sorry if you're a Bears fan...I generally route for da'bears...if they're not playing my 'boys or the outcome doesn't hurt the C'boys in any way!)....anyhooooooo......now that I've tried to remove any offending connotation to Bears fans'...LOL......while I watched that FABULOUS game last night (34-10 in case you fell asleep....Cowboys won)......I worked on the vintage needlepoint stitching the black background. I'll work on it again tonight while I watch tonight's game. I would love to have these done and ready for some finishing soon! Perhaps I should stick to this project until it's done.......yeah...that would be a grand plan! I have no fabric cut out...no quilt downstairs calling...so I should concentrate on black wool background stitching and get those done BEFORE I decide on my next quilt! Sounds like a plan! Don't you think? :o)

Wondering if any of you readers out there have any relocation memories to share? With, perhaps, info on how you handled it with older kids...young teens, etc. We do think of relocating, but I always chicken out thinking that our last guy at home will freak out about it. I don't worry about the older two, as they've already relocated as well....Ash in Ohio and Brennan travelling the country.....but Jake, well...he's 13.....very outgoing and I'm sure he'd be fine....but just wonder if there's anyone out there that has done this (I'm sure there are! There's GOT to be!) and what advice you would have and/or things you would have done differently! Please leave a comment if you can!

Amazing how smart they are huh? And c'mon....tell me you didn't laugh at least a little! TGIF!!!

and THIS is how my sewing table looked late Saturday afternoon......
and then Sunday....I went downstairs and trimmed....trimmed trimmed trimmed.......and trimmed some more.....some stupid amount of blocks.....near 300...I quit counting at 275.....I figured there was really no point.....and this is what I had when I finished early afternoon Sunday.......
and THEN....Sunday NIGHT....I decided I couldn't stand looking at this yummy colorful yarn I had sitting in a basket....and so started some sort of fashion accessory scarf....I don't think it's going to be an "oh it's cold outside where's my scarf" kinda scarf...but rather an indoor accessory.....but I haven't decided yet....and here's where I left that!
Not to worry....I whip a few stitches every now and again when I pass it downstairs.......then....on Tuesday night (Yes...I took Monday night off....it was a MONDAY let me tell you!)....so on TUESDAY night....I decided it was time to press....so I pressed quilt block units.....and got them all done while I was waiting for the washing machine to cycle through...(Yes...the washing machine is still on the blink and I haven't called a repairman...yet...). But I got this done! Well CRAP...I just deleted the picture...but trust me....I got the units all pressed...it wasn't that great of a pic anyway!
And THEN I decided it was time to pull these beauties out of the drawer and get busy on them!
Gorgeous vintage pre-worked needlepoint canvasses courtesy of a fabulous ebay auction! I just love the fruit and the shading and the colors and finally found the perfect black wool (again on ebay at a STEAL!) and so now I'm filling in the background.....and then I will be on the hunt for the most beautimus decorator fabric I can find to make lush and yummy pillows with tons of trim and maybe tassels! I can't wait to have them completed!
HOWEVER.....now I have the guilt of too many projects! LOL This weekend, I hope to get most of the civil war quilt top pieced. And I'm picking up the needlepoint every now and then when I'm sitting...and the scarf...well heck...the scarf can be done in an afternoon if the guilt REALLY gets to me!
But for now....I'm content with all my started projects, knowing that they will be complete soon....or soonish. LOL
I didn't sign up for any Sock Knitting 101 classes.....still waiting to determine which book is the best for learning sock knitting...or if a class is best. DPNs...not magic loop!
Okay---so that's what I've been up to. I'll post more progress pics this weekend! Hope everyone is enjoying their week!!

Well...a GRAND time was had by all last weekend, when my brother and sis-in-law to be came up from Dallas. We had perfect weather, perfect wine, perfect arts festival purchases (can you say POTTERY!), just a perfect weekend! The only downside was it wasn't long enough!
I will post a pic (Deb) soon of the completed bullseye...it's already been washed a couple times so it's nice and frayed and puckery! My favorite look! ;o)
Question for sock knitters out there!!! Did you learn from a class or a book?? And if was a book, please post the name of the book. I want to learn SOON and want to learn with DPNs. One of the yarn shops here in town is having a class, but it's the magic loop method. And, well, I like the look of knitting them with DPNs, so DPNs it shall be!! Please leave a comment if you have experience in sock knitting!
Another question...poll...whatever you want to call it! When purchasing online, do you/would you be inclined to purchase projects that are KITTED or would you rather have individual choices. For example, would you be inclined to purchase a sampler chart that is kitted, partially kitted (chart & linen or chart & threads). Same question for quilt projects....if there was a colorway that you just loved, would you purchase it kitted? Large or small projects? etc. I would appreciate your comments on this! Also--do you have an aversion to purchasing from an Ebay store or do you like to shop at various online sites or an Etsy shop?
These are just questions that are burning up my brain for now! ha! More posting as the weekend comes near! The weather is wonderful....60s...autumn has arrived (almost)! I love it!

So this evening....I'm working on the handwork....sewing the binding down.
Perfect timing too! As one of these quilts is for my new sis-in-law-to-be, Mona, and she and my brother are coming up from Dallas next weekend! I'm so excited! And now she can take her quilt with her!!! It worked out perfectly as far as timing goes!
In other evening entertainment.....I gave Emmitt a good brushing...and in true Emmitt Fashion....whenever he has any sort of grooming performed on his body....afterwards he feels the need to jump up on the loveseat and burrow his face all along the cushions and knock every single pillow off on to the floor and then just lay there.
I'm sure he's trying to figure out what the heck Emmitt's problem is...but then again, he kinda looks like he really could care less huh? He's a little depressed...hubby went dove hunting (Huh? Yeah...I'm TOLD it's a sport, but I just don't get it at ALL).....anyway....that's where "the man" is, and he left poor Sam behind...so he's a little gloomy. He's such a good dog.
Hope your Saturday of this long Labor Day weekend is as far from laborious as you can get!! *Peace!*

That workstyle has always piqued my curiousity......is it as great as it sounds? Or do you spend your day reading blogs! LOL
Always curious, am I, am I! Please let me hear from you!

I will say that I'm not exactly enjoying the process just yet....I don't know if the hook I'm using is too fine for these wool and the backing or what....it tends to get snagged and tangled. If there are any rug hookers out there, I would really appreciate knowing if there's some big magic trick to stopping that from happening. The hook I have seems quite thin/fine, but it's the one the lady that sold me the kit included, so am assuming it's okay. It's a Joan Moshimer hook.
But I will trudge on! ;o) This is a just a small "welcome" rug. I have two more rug patterns waiting in the wings....both scrappy....I love scrappy! ;o)
Hope your weekend's been grand! :o)

from this book by a couple of my favorite designers -- BLACKBIRD DESIGNS!
So entranced was I, that went here www.homespunhearth.com and signed right up for their Block of the Month for the quilt as pictured above. The dark version! Positively lovely! Now...if you go to Homespun Hearth and try and find this....you will not....because they sold out of this Block of the Month quite quickly! It started in January......I have yet to even OPEN a single monthly bag of fabric and start this sucker! GEEZ! Soooooooo....rather than let it sit...on my shelf.....I would like to offer it out to another ambitious quilter that would love to make the quilt! Book and kitted blocks total over $200, but I will sell it and ship it for $145! WOW! What a deal! Please drop me an email email@example.com if you're interested. I gladly take paypal, credit cards included!
Now...on to more cleaning down in the sewing room............stay tuned.
And OH! DEB! THANK YOU! !!!! I absolutely HATE sewing needlepoint canvas to scroll frame bars...and so will GLADLY use your suggestion and tape them! PERFECT! Thanks tons!!! You're the best!
